GIRLHOOD brings together a group of emerging female, non-binary and queer artists whose bold ideas and colourful aesthetics collectively address feminist themes through an intersectional lens. The exhibition combines playful and feminine aesthetics to critically explore, critique and highlight issues relating to the complex experience of girlhood.

Undone Ari is an artist-run initiative in Meanjin (Brisbane) committed to platforming, connecting, and supporting emerging contemporary artists. With a particular focus on experimental practices, the ARI aims to foster a safe creative community and encourage critical dialog.

ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM

2 June - 1 July 2023

Onespace Gallery
Art gallery in West End, Queensland.

Catalogue Essay writer Taylor Hall states:

“Employing the aesthetic simplicity of Minimalism, Renee Kire’s exhibition Any way, shape or form explores playful cognitive-learning foundations to reconsider our experience with art and space. Her vibrant geometric sculptures invite visitors into a lively and embodied installation, transforming Onespace into a conceptual playground. Kire’s work teaches us that play, exploration, and imagination without a practical purpose are perhaps more critical to society—adults and children alike—than ever before.”

SHIFTING PERSPECTIVES

12 April - 15 May 2023

Outer Space
Art gallery in Fortitude Valley, Queensland.

Shifting Perspectives is a site-specific installation that invites participants to engage with their surroundings. As a continuation into Renee’s research into the overlooking of women artists, she is seeking new ways to occupy space in untraditional ways. The installation slowly reveals itself through the responsiveness of the participant, making them think about their surroundings and their ability to adapt to new situations.

“As the viewer walks past the gallery window, the geometric frames become completely filled with solid colour when the spectator stands in my shoes; meaning they have to find my exact viewpoint to complete the work, set by my height, body position and field of vision.”

BE THERE OR BE SQUARE

18 March - 15 April 2023

Metro Arts
Art gallery in West End, Queensland.

Through the merging of sculpture and painting, this site-specific installation is an exploration of three-dimensional forms and their relationship to space. With the use of perspective and viewer interaction, Renee Kire introduces a new way of observing and understanding – promoting inquiry through the fragmentation of knowledge.

The viewer is a vital part of this work, as they are required to adapt to their surroundings.
